The British company Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) has announced the 2016 rankings of the world’s top universities by subject. QS have declared that they assessed 4,226 leading world universities for this ranking, and by measuring their performances, specified 945 top universities in 42 different scientific subjects.
In the rankings which can be found at the address http://www.topuniversities.com/subject-rankings, ODTÜ is among the world’s “top” universities in 12 scientific subjects, thus representing Turkey in the highest number of fields. ODTÜ, which appeared in the lists of 10 subjects last year, was the only Turkish university to increase its number of fields this year. Among other universities representing Turkey in these rankings, İTU appeared in the lists of 8 subjects, İD Bilkent University 5, Boğaziçi University 4, Hacettepe University 2, Ankara University, İstanbul University and Koç University 1 subject each.
ODTÜ was one of the two Turkish universities that appeared in ‘the World’s top 100 universities’ list for Mineral & Mine Engineering. In addition, ODTÜ appeared in ‘the World’s top 150 universities’ list in 4 subjects (Statistics & Operational Research, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Civil & Structural Engineering, Mechanical, Aeronautical & Manufacturing Engineering), in ‘the World’s top 200 universities’ list in 4 subjects (Politics & International Studies, Education, Earth & Marine Sciences, Chemical Engineering), in ‘the World’s top 300 universities’ list in 2 subjects (Physics & Astronomy, Computer Science & Information Systems) and in ‘the World’s top 350 universities’ list in 1 subject (Mathematics).
In these rankings, ITU was among the top 100 universities in 1 subject (Mineral & Mine Engineering), top 150 universities in 1 subject (Earth & Marine Sciences ), top 200 universities in 4 subjects (Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Mechanical, Aeronautical & Manufacturing Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil & Structural Engineering), top 350 universities in 1 subject (Computer Science & Information Systems), top 400 universities in 1 subject (Physics & Astronomy). İD Bilkent University was among top 150 universities in 1 subject (Politics & International Studies), top 200 universities in 1 subject (Electrical & Electronic Engineering), top 300 universities in 1 subject (Mechanical, Aeronautical & Manufacturing Engineering), top 350 universities in 1 subject (Computer Science & Information Systems) and top 400 in 1 subject (Physics & Astronomy). Boğaziçi University was among top 250 universities in 1 subject (Electrical & Electronic Engineering), top 300 universities in 3 subjects (Mechanical, Aeronautical & Manufacturing Engineering, Education, Computer Science & Information Systems). Hacettepe University was among top 300 universities in 2 subjects (Medicine, Education), Koç University was among top 200 universities in 1 subject (Politics & International Studies), İstanbul University was among top 300 universities in 1 subject (Medicine), and Ankara University was among top 400 universities in 1 subject (Medicine).
